Introduction

The purpose of this report is to describe our experience with Lego-robotics in Technopark Celje which was a part of our excursion to Ljubljana and Celje as well as the interesting process of both building and programming the robots.

The building process

To start, our priority was to assemble the robots which resembled the building of Lego-structures as children. As expected, step-by-step instructions were given; therefore, we assembled the robots in a short time. First, both the motors and the movement system had to be attached, furthermore the head needed to be built and the wiring linked to the main frame.

Programming

Finally, the Lego-robots were plugged in the computer and we could proceed with the programming. Due to the program not being difficult to understand as well as unproblematic to follow, we began to direct the robots swiftly. The commands were divided into sections varying from moving forward or at a certain angle to halting if its sensors were triggered.

Complication

As more commands were joined and the scale of their movement was enlarged, an important problem arose as the robots stopped moving straight but rotated somewhat to the left. Consequently, we needed a way to prevent it, which we soon discovered as the robots were required to rotate slightly right to neutralise their movement left.

The most memorable part

The entire course was very enjoyable and remarkable, but the highlight was the building of the small-scale robots, which was wonderful as from an early age I have always loved constructing both structures and objects. Combining that with fascinating technology it was most definitely an adventure I will always remember.

Conclusion

On the whole Lego-robotics is not only an exciting branch of technology, but also one of the simplest to understand. Besides being an enjoyable activity, it is also educational on how robots operate.

It was the highlight of the whole excursion to which we should have dedicated more time, yet I am nevertheless delighted to have had the chance to partake in it and would recommend it to everyone.
